GISBURN 22nd February 2007
Ladies were triumphant at the Swaledale sheep breeders association’s third annual show and sale of prime hoggs at Gisburn auction marts last Thursday. Twenty year old Hayley Baines of Trawden, Lancashire beat of strong competition to win the first prize rosette with her pen of ten Swaledale prime hoggs, weighing 41kg they sold for £45.80 or 112p a kilo selling to Paul Watson on behalf of Welsh Country Foods Ltd, Gaerwen, Anglesey, North Wales. Taking home the second prize rosette was Rita Heseltine of Summerbridge, Harrogate. This time with a pen of 39 kg hoggs which sold for £39 or 100p per kilo to Blacklidge Bros, Chorley, Lancs. National farmers union livestock board chairman, Mr Thomas Binns of Downham, Clitheroe, picked up the third prize rosette, with his hoggs which sold for £40 to Kepak UK Ltd, Bamber Bridge, Preston. |
